Girls Varsity Track vs. Liberty-Benton High School

The H-L Girls finished 3rd in the 12 team BVC Championships on Friday @ Liberty Benton. The host team capture the championship with 135 points, with Arlington second with 81 points, H-L third with 75, followed by Arcadia, Van Buren, Pandora Gilboa, Vanlue, Riverdale, Leipsic, North Baltimore, McComb and Cory Rawson. The top three places in each event receive BVC League Honors. Corrin Hoover was the lone champion, finishing first in the 300 hurdles. Second team honors were won by Emily Pace in the 800 and the 4 x 800 team of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Renae Kapelka and Corrin Hoover. Gaining thirds for the Lady Chieftains were Channelle Lyons in the 300 hurdles and the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Peyton Hoover, Corrin Hoover and Abbi Roerdink.

The H-L Track Girls won a dual meet with Seneca East on Monday, outscoring the Tigers 85-50.  Gaining 1st place finishes for the Chieftians were Renae Kapelka in the Long Jump and 3200, Channelle Lyons in both the 100 and 300 Hurdles, Emily Pace in the 1600, Abbi Roerdink in the 400, Taylor Joseph in the 800, Corrin Hoover in the 200, the 4 x 800 relay team of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Kapelka and Hoover, and the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Peyton Hoover, Corrin Hoover and Roerdink. Seconds were captured by Leiter in the High Jump and 300 Hurdles, Tina Hunger in the Long Jump, Corrin Hoover in the Pole Vault, Roerdink in the 100, Elizabeth Wells in the 400, Aurora Plickert in the 800 and Hailey Welly in the 3200.

The H-L Track Ladies had a very good night at the Ottawa Hills Relays on Friday. They got the Runner-Up spot in the 14 team event, putting together some very strong relay teams.  Rossford won the meet with 98 points, followed by H-L with 89 and Maumee Valley with 63, then Danbury, Northwood, North Baltimore, Evergreen, Pettisville, Gibsonburg, Ottawa Hills, Summerfield, Emmanuel Christian, Stritch Catholic and Montpelier. Gaining 1st places finishes were the Distance Medley team of Taylor Leiter, Riley Suter, Corrin Hoover and Emily Pace, the 4 x 200 team of Taylor Sours, Elizabeth Wells, Peyton Hoover and Abbi Roerdink, and the 4 x 800 team of Leiter, Ashley Brickner, Taylor Joseph and Renae Kapleka. Capturing seconds were the Shuttle Hurdle team of Corrin Hoover, Shanny Strahm, Brickner and Channelle Lyons. Corrin Hoover also took second in the 300 hurdles, which was one of the few individual events.

Margaretta 71, H-L 54.5 and Vermilion 48.5 was the final score as the Lady Chieftains finished in the middle of a Tri-Meet @ Margaretta last nite. Gainig 1st place honors for H-L were Abbi Roerdink in the 400, Hailey Welly in the 1600, Taylor Leiter in the 800, Renae Kapelka in the 3200, the 4 x 800 team of Leiter, Kapelka, Taylor Joseph and Corrin Hoover and the 4 x 400 team of Peyton Hoover, Roerdink, Taylor Sours and Elizabeth Wells. Picking up 2nds were the 4 x 100 team of Channelle Lyons, Becky Greene, Sours and Wells, Lyons in the 300 Hurdles, Roerdink in the 200, Taylor Joseph in the 3200 and Aurora Plickert in the 800. Thirds were scored by Wells in the High Jump, Kapelka in the Long Jump, Greene in the Pole Vault and Iceis Schindorff in the Shot Put.

For the second weekend in a row, the Lady Chieftains took the Runner-Up spot in their Invitational, narrowly missing 1st place at the Schultz Invite in Fostoria 135-133 to Lakota. Bucyrus. Buckeye Central, Calvert, Delta, Gibsonburg and New Riegel followed in the team scoring. Gathering 1st place finishes for H-L were Emily Pace in the 800, Corrin Hoover in the Pole Vault, the 4 x 800 team of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Renae Kapellka and Jazmine Nutter, the 4 x 200 team of Taylor Sours, Elizabeth Wells, Peyton Hoover and Abbi Roerdink and the 4 x 100 team of Channelle Lyons, Becky Greene, Sours and Wells. Seconds were grabbed by the 4 x 1600 team of Aurora Plickert, Hailey Welly, Taylor Joseph and Ashley Brickner, the 4 x 400 team of Pace, P. Hoover, Leiter and Roerdink and Becky Greene in the Pole Vault. Taking thirds were Abbi Roerdink in the 200 and the 400 and Renae Kapelka in the 3200.

The H-L Girls won the 1st Varsity Home Meet at the new Track Facility, scoring 136 points to top Lakota 74, Old Fort 63, North Baltimore 57 and New Riegel 28.  Gaining 1st place finishes for the Chieftains were Emily Pace in the 1600, Abbi Roerdink in the 800, Hailey Welly in the 3200, Corrin Hoover in the Pole Vault, the 4 x 800 team of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Renae Kapelka and Hoover, the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Peyton Hoover, Roerdink and Corrin Hoover and the Throwers 4 x 100 team of Iceis Schindorff, Courtney Yarbrough, Kylie Stahl and Jazmine Nutter. Picking up 2nd places were Leiter in the Pole Vault and 800, Kapelka in the 1600, Corrin Hoover in the 300 Hurdles, Peyton Hoover in the 200 and Taylor Joseph in the 3200.

The H-L Girls grabbed the Runner-Up spot in the 13 team Fostoria Booster Invite on Saturday. The team from Ida, Michigan won the meet, followed by the Lady Chieftians, Genoa, Arcadia, Seneca East, Lakota, Maumee, Old Fort, Fostoria, Liberty Benton. New Riegel, Toledo Scott and Toledo Woodward. Placing 1st for H-L were Emily Pace in the 800 and the 4 x 800 team of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Renae Kapelka and Corrin Hoover.  Hoover also grabbed a 2nd in the 300 Hurdles. Other 2nd place finishes were Abbi Roerdink in the 400 , Hailey Welly in the 3200 and the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Elizabeth Wells, Roerdink and Hoover. Leiter also gained a 3rd place in the Pole Vault.
Girls Varsity Track vs. Riverdale High School

The Lady Chieftains won a close meet, edging Riverdale 87-84. Liberty Benton scored only 14 points with limited athletes at the meet. Gaining 1st place finishes for H-L were Corrin Hoover in the Pole Vault and 300 Hurdles, Abbi roerdink in the 400 and 100, Iceis Schindorff in the Shot Put, Emily Pace in the 800 and Taylor Sours in the 200. The 4 x 800 Relay of Pace, Taylor Leiter, Renae Kapleka and Hoover took 1st, as did the 4 x 200 team of Sours, Elizabeth Wells, Channelle Lyons and Roerdink and the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Leiter, Roerdink and Hoover. Corrin Hoover and Abbi Roerdink were both involved in four 1st place finishes.

H-L placed 3rd of three teams at Clyde on Tuesday night. Frigid temperatures didn't keep the Chieftains from some good performances against these two great programs. Corrin Hoover grabbed a 1st in the 300 Hurdles, Taylor Leiter a 2nd in the 3200, Abbi Roerdink a 2nd in the 400, Hailey Welly a 3rd in the 3200, Emily Pace a 3rd in the 400 and Renae Kapelka a 3rd in the 800. The 4 x 800 team of Pace, Kapelka, Leiter and Hoover were the only scoring Relay team, getting a 2nd place.

The Lady Chieftains finished 12th in the 15 team field at the Milan Edison Invite on Saturday. This was an extremely competitive meet with several DII Track programs.  Gaining places for the H-L squad were Emily Pace with a 4th in the 800, Corrin Hoover with a 5th in the Pole Vault, Taylor Leiter with a 6th in the Pole Vault, Renae Kapelka with a 6th in the Long Jump, a 6th for the 4 x 800 relay team  of Pace, Leiter, Kapelka and Hoover, 7th places for Channelle Lyons in the 100 Hurdles and Abbi Roerdink in the 400 and 8th place finishes for Jazmine Nutter in the Shot Put and Leiter in the 800.
Girls Varsity Track vs. Fremont St. Joseph

The Lady Chieftains took 2nd in a very close six team meet @ Fremont on Tuesday night. Lakota scored 134 to win, followed by H-L with 130, Fremont SJCC with 96.5, Sandusky St. Mary with 91, New Riegel 43 and Put-in-Bay 14. Taking 1st place finishes for the Chieftians were Iceis Schindorff in the Shot Put, Corrin Hoover in the Pole Vault, Taylor Leiter in the 800, Elizabeth Wells in the High Jump, Abbi Roerdink in the 400, the 4 x 800 Relay team of Emily Pace, Jazmine Nutter, Renae Kapelka and Leiter, and the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Peyton Hoover, Roerdink and Corrin Hoover.  Second places were grabbed by Leiter in the Pole Vault and Hailey Welly in the 3200.

The Lady Chieftain Track and Field team claimed 6th place in the 17 school field at the Lakota Invite on Saturday.  Oak Harbor won the Meet, followed by Lake, Willard, Clyde and Lakota. The Lady Chieftains finished ahead of Woodmore, Holgate, Fremont St. Joe, Old Fort, Genoa, Fostoria, Calvert, Otsego, New Riegel, Gibsonburg and Toledo Woodward. Top finishers for H-L were Taylor Leiter with a 2nd place in the Pole Vault. Renae Kapelka with a 3rd in the Long Jump, Emily Pace with a 3rd in the 800 and a 2nd place finish for the 4 x 400 team of Pace, Peyton Hoover, Abbi Roerdink and Corrin Hoover.

The Lady Chieftains kicked off their 2018 season with a 3rd place finish at the Carey Blue Devil Relays on Saturday.Carey won the meet with 135 points, followed by Willard with 109, H-L with 104 and then Riverdale, Arlington, Arcadia and North Baltimore.
